The Procedure
Dr. Corbett performs breast augmentation at a state-of-the-art outpatient surgical center. Patients who undergo the procedure are free to begin recovery in the comfort of their own home. He then places the breast implant either under the muscle of the chest wall or behind the breast itself. During a comprehensive consultation, a number of decisions are made about surgery, including the type of breast implant to be used, the location of the incisions and the placement of the implant. Once the implant has been placed, incisions are closed with sutures. The entire breast augmentation procedure can be completed in about 30 minutes.
Recovering from Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia, and as such, patients may experience grogginess or mild nausea after the procedure. Patients should arrange for someone to drive them home and care for them in the 24 hours after surgery. An overnight stay is available to those who prefer this option. Frequently we request that our out-of-town patients stay overnight in a local hotel. Patients will experience some minor swelling, bruising and discomfort in the days after the procedure. Most patients can resume routine activities, including work, within 5-7 days. More strenuous activity, such as exercise or heavy lifting, should be avoided for several weeks.
